The workshop was a common initiative of NCP_Academy, DG JRC and NCP_WIDE.NET. Focusing to significant extent on synergies within specialized thematic areas, as well as creating a forum for exchange of best practices and collaboration between NCPs and authorities managing ESIF. The rationale behind the interactions between the two policy frameworks, the European Structural and Investment Funds and the Framework programme for research and innovation, is that the combination of place-based investments through Smart Specialisation Strategies and excellence in research and innovation will enhance the impact of funds. The ultimate aim of building synergies is not only bringing efficiency, but having an increased impact on regions in terms of jobs, growth and competitiveness.
